European manufacturer of mid-to-high end PCs, using Pentium
III-based motherboards, experience electromagnetic interference
at the I/O connector interface. Shielding of at least 80 dB
was needed over a broad frequency range. Low impedance grounding
was needed to the PC chassis via the I/O backpanel. The shielding
and grounding solution had to install easily and function under
low closure force. |

meet these requirements, Chomerics die-cut thin cross section
gaskets to fit the standard I/O panel dimensions. A conductive
pressure-sensitive adhesive was then added to the gaskets' mounting
surfaces. No installation hardware was required. |

die-cut SOFT-SHIELD 4000 EMI gaskets provided a low-cost, high
volume shielding and grounding solution. This flexible gasket
features a closed cell urethane foam core, machine wrapped with
fabric-reinforced aluminum foil. |

SOFT-SHIELD 4000 gaskets also provided more than 100 dB attenuation
from 20 MHz to 10 GHz, with no degradation in shielding performance
after 10,000 compression cycles. Deflection of 25% was achieved
with only 3.0 lb/inch (0.525 N/mm) compressive force. |

4000 material comes in five standard thicknesses, in 10 or 20
inch (25.4 or 50.8 cm) lengths, and widths from 0.5 to 6 inches
(12.7 to 152 mm). In addition to die-cut parts and low-cost
picture frame gaskets, SOFT-SHIELD 4000 material is supplied
kiss-cut on film sheets for peel-and-stick grounding tabs. |
