manufacturer of wireless radio transmitters needed both an
EMI shielding gasket and a weather seal to protect a new outdoor
unit. The transmitter featured a cast magnesium enclosure
with a chromate conversion coating. It was non-serviceable
equipment and the shielding/sealing solution must be low cost.

meet the application needs, Chomerics provided die-cut gaskets
of its POLA oriented wire in silicone material. The gaskets
were cut from POLASHEET® EMI gasketing and weather seal
using low cost steel rule dies. When installed, the gasket's
monel wires ran perpendicular to the enclosure's mating flanges.
The
wires bite through the chromate covering to make strong conductive
contact with the flanges. The solid silicone weather seal
provides an environmental seal.

The POLA gaskets provided the needed EMI and weather protection
at significantly lower cost than other systems. Manufacturing
improvements have lowered the costs and raised the quality
of this reliable shielding material. It is also available
in sheets, custom die cuts and in strips with either monel
or aluminum wire. Pressure sensitive adhesive can be added
as an attachment system.
