UL 94V-0 Gaskets Help Shield Server

.....A network server's outer enclosure required low closure force conductive EMI gaskets to maintain the integrity of its shielding. The plastic case incorporated a conductive paint on its inner surfaces. EMI gaskets were needed in seams where enclosure parts joined together. In addition, compressible conductive contacts were needed for grounding the motherboard to the enclosure. The application required that all shielding and grounding materials be compliant with UL 94V-0 flameclass requirements.
.....To meet these needs, Chomerics provided low-cost strips and contact buttons made from SOFT-SHIELD® 5000 low closure force EMI gasket material. They included a pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) backing for fast, peel-and-stick attachment. The SOFT-SHIELD 5000 material is qualified to UL 94V-0 requirements
.
.....All Chomerics SOFT-SHIELD 5000 series gaskets (with or without UL 94V-0 rating) consist of an electrically conductive fabric jacked over a highly compressible foam core. The nickel/silver-plated woven nylon jacket is self-terminating when cut.The foamcore requires less than1 lb/inch (0.175 N/mm) closure force to achieve 40% deflection.
.....This low closure force property of SOFT-SHIELD 5000 gaskets allows an engineer to design commercial electronic enclosures with fewer fasteners and thinner panels. Shielding performance exceeds 90 dB from 30 MHz to 1 GHz, and 75 dB at 10 GHz.
.....Pressure-sensitive adhesive attachment tape makes all SOFT-SHIELD 5000 series gaskets a user-friendly and cost-effective design solution. Gaskets are ordinarily supplied in 8-ft (2.4 m) lengths in a variety of profile shapes. Chomerics' fabrication capabilities include kiss-cut parts on polyester film release backers, die-cut shapes, picture frame gaskets, mounting clips and rigid inserts.
