global manufacturer of cellular hardware needed to shield an
indoor enclosure where it interfaced with an antenna housing.
The shielding solution had to install easily and accommodate
.030 inch flatness tolerances on both the cast aluminum enclosure
and the plastic antenna housing.
The
manufacturer first tried applying individual strips of a conductive
fabric over foam gasket material. But installing these strips
proved to be very time consuming and imprecise. More importantly,
this material's compressive properties resulted in leakage problems
at the metal and plastic interface. A new shielding system was
needed to address these design needs.Chomerics provided a one-piece
solution using its SOFT-SHIELD 5000 ®
conductive fabric over foam material.

The gasket is cut and folded into a picture frame shape. Cut
notches and pressure sensitive adhesive further reduced the
installation times. The SOFT-SHIELD gasket features a highly
compressible foam core that conforms to the variable interface
surfaces with no compromise of its shielding performance.

these improvements in speed and performance, the manufacturer
determined it had lowered the installed cost of the shielding
